Harmony by Karate
is located at west 67th Street in the Reebok Sports Club.
There is an
adult and a children class at Harmony by Karate. Attendance at these
classes is nearly always 100%. What has made this program so popular
is the many years of experience by Senei
John, the head instructor, and the atmosphere of these
classes, which are filled with respect and duty.
The philosophy of his
class is not just about winning in the art of karate. The emphasis
is more about the process of training the student both mentally
and physically through the classes.
Etiquette or (rei) is
one of the most important things in karate. In Sensei John's class,
many questions are raised to students about the meaning of respect
and the understanding of the importance of endurance.
There are many students
who join his class because of the mental focus they know they will
gain and because they are eager to learn more about Japanese traditions.
Introducing Sensei John
With 25 years of experience, he established Harmony by Karate in
1984. He has been teaching how to be accepting of others, and how
to respect other students, just like in the Japanese tradition.
Voice from a student
(Leonard Stevenson)
He started karate because he found that it matched his personality.
"The wonderful thing about learning karate is that you will
be trained mentally and will also discover another side of yourself".
His biggest learning is that endurance is a very important thing
in ones life.
