June
19, 2008 This
marks the end of the African Scholarship Program
– mission complete! –
After
100+ hours of extensive training, Ouma and Sylvia have successfully
completed our mission and have returned home to share their
knowledge. A Harmony By Karate Program will now be established
in their home township. Under Ouma and Sylvia’s leadership,
the 500+ children in their care will undergo intensive self
defense karate training.
We wish
Ouma and Sylvia the very best in their new roles as karate
instructors. The orphaned children of MAT are very fortunate
to have such loving and devoted caregivers watching over them.
Thanks
to all of Harmony By Karate’s supporters for helping
to make this program a successful one.

The women will be formally introduced to the
Harmony By Karate community at our Competition Classics on

March,
2008 Harmony
By Karate, New York, launches its “African Scholarship
Program” in partnership with MaAfrika Tikkun from South
Africa.
Harmony
By Karate located at the Reebok Sports Club/NY, announces
the commencement of its African Scholarship Program. This
program is being developed in partnership with a unique South
African based community development organization, MaAfrika
Tikkun (MAT), which focuses on a holistic approach to caring
for vulnerable children in South African townships.
Founded
on the philosophy of “universal harmony” to promote
tolerance worldwide, Harmony By Karate (HBK) aims to share
comprehensive training with two young South African women
who are currently working for MAT as community caregivers
during their four month stay in New York. The goal is for
these women to return to South Africa and share their newly
developed mental and physical skills with 130+ fellow caregivers
and over 500 children in their care.
The
new students will arrived in New York on April 15, 2008 and
were presented to the HBK community at the annual Harmony
By Karate Classics Competition which were held on Sunday May
4, 2008 at their home dojo located in the Reebok Sports Club/NY
(Studio 1 – 6th floor; 3pm).
This charitable event will help support MAT and the African
Scholarship Program
