Universal Harmony Day

September 11, 2010, Sensei John
on national radio show promoting peace

On September 11th, 2010, 12 like-minded individuals who strive for peace, love and understanding to prevail. Sensei John Mirrione, the head instructor of Harmony by Karate, and eleven others - three members of the dojo and eight guests - met for a simple but direct purpose: to exchange thoughts and insight into the complications of our world, and how loving and righteous action might help to make human life, and civilization, more fulfilling.
Judge not. Be open. Positive is a state of mind and not just a mathematical sum!
We need to build community centers everywhere, to know truth by its light, and to live passionately with the knowledge that every one of us is unique, but linked to all others, everywhere, by common bonds. Ultimately, compassion and tolerance must prevail. And that's a revolution.

The discussion elicited some quotes from, among others, Gandhi, Mark Twain, and the Koran. Meditation followed, with the spoken words of Sensei Joseph Hall, and wondrous music on the shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese flute instrument, by fellow guest Aaron Shragge

In 2006, through Sensei John's efforts and the support of ABC television, World Blackbelt, Tiger Claw magazine, Parent Guide magazine, Battle of Atlanta newspaper, September 11th was declared Universal Harmony Day. ABC television sponsored and produced a thirty second PSA commercial featuring Sensei John announcing September 11th as Universal Harmony Day. This holiday was presented as a day for giving and a celebration of humanity.
